Description of service(s) The provincial Department of Social Development(formerly Family and Community Services) provides a comprehensive approach to family services removing barriers to work and leading to greater self-sufficiency. The department brings together all family and children's programming, income support programs, housing programs, disability programs, youth policy, and long term care programs including nursing home services.  
 
It provides a comprehensive approach to:  
~Family services (including Day Care Assistance, National Child Benefit, Prenatal Benefit Program)  
~Youth services  
~Children's services  
~Seniors' services  
~Services for persons with disabilities
